The First Tee Chapters in the Northeast Region
The First Tee of Metropolitan New York won this year’s Northeast Regional Challenge (NRC) held at Walnut Lane Golf Course in Philadelphia, PA on Monday, June 28th. Kuriko Tsukiyama (Bogota, NJ), Paul Toohey (Yonkers, NY), Matt Moers (Brooklyn, NY), and Casey Durant (Long Island, NY) represented The First Tee Metropolitan New York Chapter. The team had the highest Life Skills score of 74 with a total team score of 259, using the three best life skills scores and the three best golf scores.
Kuriko received the award for the lowest score for older girls with 63 points, and Matt received the award for the lowest score for older boys with 66 points.
This year’s NRC consisted of teams from 10 Chapters, including Metropolitan New York, Raritan Valley (2 teams), Delaware, Connecticut, FDR, Monmouth at Ocean County, Washington D.C., Walnut Lane, and Trenton. Each team played one eighteen-hole round of golf and was asked “life skills aptitude questions” during the course of the round in order to earn additional points towards their individual and team score. The second day included an AT&T National Clinic taught by Sean O’Hare and Justin Rose.
The NRC was launched last year by The First Tee of Washington, D.C., The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, and The First Tee of Philadelphia in order to give participants in the northeast the opportunity to compete and meet their peers from other chapters. This year’s Northeast Regional Challenge was a great success.
