The First Tee Training Program at Hank Haney IJGA
Mar 1, 2010

The First Tee is pleased to announce a new and exciting opportunity available to your participants - The First Tee Training Program at Hank Haney IJGA.  This event is the first step in a developing relationship between The First Tee, Hank Haney and Hank Haney IJGA that will be announced in the coming weeks.

June 1 - 5, 2010 up to 60 participants from The First Tee will have the opportunity to train under the teaching principles of the coach of the #1 player in the world.  The Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (Hank Haney IJGA) prides itself in training junior golfers for success in tournament golf and beyond.  Similar to The First Tee's impact, The Hank Haney IJGA boasts that their students develop the critical qualities of commitment, goal setting and a consistent work ethic to best impact their academics, golf and future endeavors.

During the program the Hank Haney IJGA teaching principles will be uniquely blended with The First Tee coaching philosophy.  Activities will include daily instruction with Hank Haney IJGA instructors and The First Tee Coaches on all aspects of the golf game (full swing, short game, and on course).  Mental training, fitness training and college placement sessions will also be held.  Evenings will include fun activities such as trips to the beach, laser tag, movies, kayaking and a dolphin cruise.

The First Tee Training Program at Hank Haney IJGA is unique in that there is a fee associated with participating.  The normal cost for this program is $1,295.  The IJGA is offering a scholarship to The First Tee in the amount of $595, so the discounted price is $700 plus the cost of travel to get to Hilton Head Island, SC.

Chapters are strongly encouraged to pay for the event fee as well as travel expenses to get to Hilton Head Island for all accepted participants.  We understand that funding is tight and this may not be a budgeted expense, therefore we encourage Chapters to get creative in how this is paid for.  Possibilities are to help the accepted participant(s) hold a special fundraiser to pay for expenses, solicit a special donation request from board members etc.  As a last resort, participant families could pay these fees.

  • April 12, 2010 - Postmark deadline for applications
  • April 23, 2010 - Selected participants announced
  • June 1 - 5, 2010 - The First Tee Training Program at Hank Haney IJGA

We recognize that this event is scheduled when school is still in session for many.  Unfortunately, due to the Hank Haney IJGA's established schedule, this was the only week made available to The First Tee with the significant scholarship discount offered.
