The First Tee of Essex County

About Us

In August of 2006, The First Tee of Essex County was formed through a partnership between the Metropolitan Golf Association, the New Jersey PGA, the New Jersey State Golf Association, and the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. Located in the heart of Newark’s South Ward inside Weequahic Park our facility is adjacent to the historic Weequahic Golf Course. Our organization converted a blighted former dumping site into a beautiful outdoor Junior Learning Facility to serve the youth of Essex County and surrounding towns. This outdoor space offers a versatile practice area that can be used for short game instruction, limited flight driving range, or as a three-hole short course to introduce youth people to the game and its positive values.

In March of 2012, an indoor Junior Learning Facility was added as an extension of the Weequahic Golf Course Clubhouse to give us the amazing opportunity to operate year round. Inside we review our First Tee curriculum via projected power points in a classroom setting. We offer private lessons with PGA certified coaches that take place in once of our two hitting bays. We also have a golf stimulator equipped with a driving range feature and several highly ranked golf courses that can be played from start to finish digitally. In this we also hold our SAT Prep classes and Individual Tutoring sessions with two amazing tutors from Parliament Tutors.
