The First Tee at Chelsea Piers
In October of 2007, The First Tee of Metropolitan New York along with The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers welcomed LPGA tour pro, Paula Creamer, to help kick off the beginning of a partnership that would bring The First Tee program into the heart of Manhattan.  The facility runs an eight month long program in conjunction with the school year to provide a free after school program for participating groups and nominal fee instruction on the weekends to students who wish to learn more.

The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers, Manhattan’s only multi-tiered, year-round, outdoor golf driving range and teaching academy, offers golfers the unique opportunity to hit full shots, practice putting, take lessons from top pros, and enjoy the ambiance of a riverside country club, without ever leaving the city.

Since the fall of 2007, The First Tee at Chelsea Piers has conducted over 350 hours worth of Target and Par level programming and has serviced many youth groups and schools in the area along with individual sign up classes on the weekends.  Students who wish to continue with the program throughout the season attend classes at Mosholu in the Bronx.

A list of community groups and schools that have taken advantage of The First Tee experience at The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers are:

Cornerstone Learning Center  GenerationXcel

Students begin at The First Tee in the Target Level and then progress through the PLAYer, Par, Birdie, and Eagle Levels.  This past year, the Ace Level was created with an emphasis on leadership, community service, game improvement, and career planning.

Students are certified in both Life Skills and golf knowledge and will only progress when both aspects are met.  Participants are also given opportunities to join our Mentor Program and apply for National First Tee programs: the National Leadership Academy, The Scholar’s Program, RBS Achiever of the Year, Future Leaders Forum, and the Wal-Mart First Tee Open.

Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex is a 28-acre waterfront sports village located between 18th and 23rd Streets along Manhattan’s Hudson River. Opened in 1995, Chelsea Piers has transformed four historic, long-neglected piers into a major center for public recreation and waterfront access. Situated on Piers 59, 60, 61, and 62 and in the headhouse that connects them, the Complex features the following sports and entertainment venues: The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers, The Sports Center Health Club at Chelsea Piers, The Spa at Chelsea Piers, Chelsea Piers BlueStreak, Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers, The Field House at Chelsea Piers, 300 New York Bowling at Chelsea Piers, PIER SIXTY at Chelsea Piers, and THE LIGHTHOUSE at Chelsea Piers.
